How to get involved

Are you looking for your way of building the Dorshei Emet community? Have some free time that you want to devote to doing good in the world? Looking for high school credit for volunteering? There are countless ways of getting involved in the community. Call the office to speak with our Executive Director, who can help connect you to the service that is right for you. Here are some examples of ways to get involved, some of which are only a few hours and some of which are ongoing:

  • Volunteer in one of our social justice programs, like helping at Empty Bowls, delivering Hannukah Food Baskets, and more.
  • Host other congregants you don’t normally socialize with for Shabbat dinner at your house as part of “Guess Who’s Coming to Shabbat?”
  • Be a parnass or greeter at Shabbat morning services, welcoming people and handing out books
  • Read Torah or Haftarah or lead prayers during Shabbat or festival services
  • Join the team to help plan an upcoming holiday party or celebration, either for the whole congregation or specifically for families and kids
  • Call our members to let them know about events of interest to them (e.g. our families to let them know about upcoming family outing)
  • Cook and deliver meals for congregants who are sick or who have just had a baby
  • Help plan and create one of our excellent cultural events, like the Shabbat Shira concert, special guest speakers, art exhibitions
  • Work on publicity for our events, either by designing a poster, hanging flyers, contacting people by phone or social media, and more
  • Dream up something you think the community needs and make it happen!
