The new Hartman Institute course, Liberal Zionism: Between Crisis and Aspiration, will explore the urgent and often painful questions raised about Zionism over the past two years. Each week, participants will have access to a podcast led by Hartman scholars who will guide us in examining the core tensions and values of liberal Zionism in a post–October 7 reality. In class, we will explore texts and discuss the topics as we unpack these difficult ideas. Together, we’ll learn frameworks for holding moral complexity, navigating emotional and ideological divides, and learn how to best engage our community with courage, compassion, and clarity.

Art is not always found indoors; much of it is outdoors and free to admire. We will spend four classes exploring public art and architecture. Two classes will focus on memorial statues and public monuments. We will look at examples and at some of the sculptors, like Michelangelo and Patrick Bernatchez. The other two classes will look at parks, their layouts, vegetations and sculptural elements. We will also meet some of the great designers, like Frederick Olmstead, Gertrude Jekyll and others.

Registration is now open for our second session of Shorashim, where we will continue growing our shorashim (our roots) through music, art, and interactive activities. Most importantly, friendships and a strong sense of community will continue to grow. Whether you joined us in Session 1 or are brand new to the program, we cannot wait to welcome you! Register here.

Disability Inclusion Shabbat Update
|
|
Thank you to everyone who attended our Disability Inclusion Shabbat on Saturday. We had a very helpful discussion about ways that we can make our community more inclusive and welcoming, and appreciated the honesty with which everyone participated in the discussion. Over the next few months we will be working on some specific ideas including revisioning the importance of including those on Zoom during services and other programming, ensuring that we have working sound amplifiers for those in services, making large print copies of the service available and ensuring that people have clear and accessible ways to communicate their accessibility needs to the rabbi and staff as needed. We take creating an accessible and inclusive community seriously, and we will be doing what we can to not just reflect on these ideas but bring them to fruition in the coming months.
