Empty Bowls

Empty Bowls is a participatory, fun way to raise funds for tzedakah, for charity. Potters throughout Quebec and beyond donate beautiful, hand-made bowls to the cause. The public is invited to a festive afternoon of musical performances and a soup lunch - in the new bowls that attendees purchase!

April, 2018

The Empty Bowls Committee – Joan Simand, Sheila Caplan, Paula Lehrman, Gaby Orbach and Frances Stober – offers thanks to our loyal and enthusiastic volunteers: Judith Klugerman, Shara Rosen, Andrea Strom-Rancourt, Sharon Rustin, Judith Farovitch, Debbie Carroll, Amy Barrington, Michael Lehrman, Leah Saltiel, Bryna Rubinger, Maurice Krystal and other participants who joined us on the most beautiful day of the year at the YM-YWHA on Sunday April 22nd.

Our bowl collection on display this year included delightful contributions from our young artists-in-the-making, thanks to the decorating workshops offered by Sheila Caplan at Akiva School, the YM-YWHA holiday camp and at our own family Shabbat program. As well, a decorating workshop was held for adults at the Métèque Atelier d’art. Thanks also to our sponsors BESO caterers, Maruti Fruit and Chesky’s Bakery.

Special appreciation goes to Carmela Aigen for linking us to Akiva School and to Sarah Dolin for initiating our liaison with the YM-YWHA and for encouraging participation of our families with young children in decorating bowls while becoming sensitized to the issue of hunger in the Jewish community.

$1700.00 was raised, which will go for the Dorshei Emet Chanukah Food Baskets Program.

If you were unable to join us and would still like to make a contribution, there are some bowls available. Please contact
